New Job For Chris Doughty at Durango

Posted on Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010 | in News | No Comments

Former off road European Champion Chris Doughty is now a Project Coordinator at Team Durango…sweet! And he is a good man for the job. He has over 20 years of experience racing RCs and over 5 years contributing to successful RC related projects.d

Working with the Durango Global Racing Team, Doughty will be responsible for analyzing their feedback as well as that of  their customers and using it towards the continued development of the full range of Durango race cars. Doughty will also be playing a huge role in making Durango cars faster, better, and more suited to the needs of the customers.

This is what Chris had to say about his new position:

“I am incredibly excited by this new opportunity at Team Durango, I have always kept an eye on the development of the Durango cars over the years and it’s clear that their ideas are great, and very well implemented. Being part of this going forward is fantastic and I can’t wait to start working with the Race Team and Durango staff.”

European Touring Series

Posted on Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010 | in News | No Comments

Another quick update for you from Europe:

LRP team drivers Ronald Völker and Eric Dankel had a perfect start in the European Touring Series 2010/11. After winning in Kastellaun, nobody among the Modified and Stock starters was able to keep up with the duo at Hrotovice/Tschechien.

These LRP team drivers remain on track in the European Touring Car series, with Ronald Völker once more succeeding against the top of the European touring car elite in the Modified class. Erik Dankel also won in Hrotovice.

Don’t get it wrong, these weren’t the only guys that left lasting impressions. The whole LRP team put on a great show. 5 out of 10 drivers made the A-Main in Modified and were able to secure 4 out of the first 5 ranks in the end (1. Ronald Völker, 3. Alexander Hagberg, 4. Juho Levanen, 5. Freddy Südhoff, 9. Dominik Fleischmann).

And they didn’t stop there: In stock racing class, 1st place went to Erik Dankel, 3rd place to Alexander Stocker and a strong 7th and 8th place for Tony Streit and Daniel Wohlgemuth. Yowsas!

Ronald Völker again dominated in the modified class. This guy is pretty unstoppable! These are just a few snippets from the LRP website. They were very successful in this round of the European Touring Series.

New Product! HPI Challenge Spec Racing tires

Posted on Tuesday, December 21st, 2010 | in News | No Comments

HPI is releasing an all-new tire design. All you on-road RC racers know  it’s  hard to find spec racing tires for on-road racers. But HPI has come up with a way to solve that problem. Well, go HPI!

These tires were developed with the help of the HB racing team. HPI has now developed a durable tire with excellent traction and high speed stability – key factors on designing a successful racing tire. The testing for these new tires took place from the UK to Thailand, and the results have been very impressive.

They are called the  HPI Challenge 30 tire/wheel set and they feature a low profile, fabric belt reinforcing and a unique blend of rubber to deliver good traction and excellent durability. The wheel is an HPI design molded in a stiff plastic for improved high-speed stability. The inserts used in the wheel are precisely molded to ensure consistency for predictable performance from set to set.

That’s pretty cool. Stay up to date on the hottest new releases and RC news like this here at RCNightmare.com.

The 2010 Clash!

Posted on Tuesday, December 21st, 2010 | in News | No Comments

This event, to me, is awesome:

Last weekend, the 4th Annual JConcepts Clash took place at the Hurricane R/C Park in Lutz, FL. The Clash, as it is known, is where “The Powers Explode,” combining the best of the electric and nitro classes on the same day for a winner take all Cash at the Clash 2010 no holds barred event!

Each year the event changes the layout of the track keeping the racers on their toes. There were over 240 entries including  some of the nation’s finest drivers taking the track. They were in for some exciting racing when they got there. Here are some of the highlights for you:

In the early morning of day 1, the electric qualifiers started with Team Associated’s JR Mitch putting down the fastest runs in 2wd and SCT Open. JR’s Team Associated B4.1 and SC10 Factory Team were glued to the track with JConcepts Double Dees and held a very early edge in lap-times and speed. By round 2, things had been changed up a bit as Ryan Maifield took the top spot in 2wd Open with a crazy fast run of 11 / 5:01. Chris Cristo took command in the 2wd Stock class taking a TQ run over Jader Lopez. Mike Applegate took round 2 in Stock Truck putting in a solid 10/5:01. JR Mitch again shows the touch in Pro 2 Open SCT with another TQ run over Maifield.

In Day 1 qualifying for nitro Maifield consistently looked strong and took his JConcepts equipped RC8b and RC8T-CE straight to the top of the field in 1/8th buggy and truggy expert. The Sportsman class was all Rick Bender in the buggy class and Joey “Batman” Perez in truggy.

Fast forward to day 3 – the Mains, when it began raining like crazy. After the rain continued, the race crew and the Hurricane track crew agreed that the track was too damaged to continue. Quick math made the decision easy, it was impossible to prepare the track and race both electric and nitro during the day-light hours.

The top 10 were given their awards with the winners also receiving over $2000 in combined cash payout. Big winners, Ryan Maifield, Joey “Batman” Perez, Steven Hartson, Paul Sinclair, Dave Bowser, Jader Lopez and Carl Lebo posed with their well deserved earnings in the awards presentation.
