Help me 1st lipo purchase!!!

Im gunna need to get myself a LiPo for my traxxas rustler vxl(upgraded from xl 5).no unfortunately i know NOTHING about them. So here is my load of questions.
1. Are there specific LiPos for different drive types such as bashing?
2.Can i charge a LiPo on my traxxas ez-peak quick charger?
3.what gear sizes would i want to run it with on generally mixed terrain?
4.Are they waterproof?
5.Am i gunna burn my house down if i charge it incorrectly? (get safety bag?)
6.What is a nice charger?
7.can i charge on a basic long time charger until i can afford a quick charger?

i know, a lot of questions but im desperate so could i please get some help? lol

1. Not really but you want to make sure it has enough power for you setup.

2. No. Get a charger that can specifically charge Lipos.

3. What ever you were running before should be find. Just watch you motor temps and gear down if it is running too hot.

4. For the most part, yes. I wouldn't submerge them for extended periods of time though.

5.Yes you can which is brings me back to #2 GET A LIPO SPECIFIC CHARGER!!!!!!!

6. Check out the duratrax onyx line of chargers. This would be one of the cheapest its ac/dc and it balance chargers.

7.#5 and #2. If money is an issue, checkout hobbypartz.com They have ac/dc chargers but the quality isn't as good as bigger name brand chargers. Also check for used ones on ebay and other forums like rctech, people usually sell them cheaply there. I got a duratrax ice, a 100 dollar charger, for 35 dollars on rctech.net.

For you car, if you get a lipo try to get one with at least 4000mah and 20c but i recommend atleast 5000 mah at 30c. For cheap lipos, check out hobbypartz.com and hobbyking.com just dont get the B-grade lipos.

your telling him to get a 3s 25c for his very first lipo in his rustler? my friends wheelies on a 12t on 7.4 volt NiMh ?

I dont really care for super high speeds i mean once i reach 60 that is definitely fast enough. i more so care about run time, and flips. i can already wheelie well as long as im on grippy terrain. When people want more run time do they just get more battery's? or are there higher priced battery's that have better run time?

U cant do that period with the xl-5, it cant handle 3s. You need the vxl system or anoher brushless system capable of handling 3s.

As for run time, lipos will give you much more runtime than Nihm or Nicd at the same capacity. I had an 5000mah Nihm that i got about 15 minutes of runtime on. Now i have 5000 mah 40c lipos and on the exact same setup, im getting almost an hour of runtime at the track. Im able to get finish charging one lipo pack before the other hits cutoff.
