Hello,
With Christmas fast approaching i am thinking of getting my first ever hobby grade rc... i need to know which out of the MERV, the mini summit, slash 2wd or the one of the monster jam series is more robust and good to run on mostly grass short some times long. Parents are against the idea but i am keen to get into hobby grade Rcs

RCs hate grass. It slows them down, kills batteries, and if you're not careful it will burn up nitro and electric motors.
Get the Slash or Monster Jam truck.

I wouldn't get a Monster Jam truck. They're just a Stampede with a new body. They just cost more and when you destroy the body, you need to buy the same expensive one, unless you paint one your self... but then you're stuck with the "Why didn't I get a Stampede now that I don't have the Monster Jam body".... My rant for the day
I'd defiantly say Slash or Stampede. Mini's are great, but can't do as much outside. I have 5 mini's and the two RCs I run are my 1/10 B4 and Mini Rock Crawler.
Slsh is super tough, but In my opinion the Stampede is more fun ;)
There's always the Stampede 4x4, but I'm guessing he wants something cheaper.
The Monster Jam trucks are more because of the body, wheels, tires and licensing fees.

I really like my rustler but for bashing i would probably get either a slash 4x4 or a stampede 4x4

Or you could get a HPI savage
But cost wise?
Savage is awesome lots of money
Stampede VXL lots of money
Stampede 4x4 lots of money
Normal Stampede Cheap
agree on the slash 4x4 or stampede.
Would get Savage XS, Stampede 4x4 or Savage Flux c",)
