the receiver might be old but if its 27 megahertz then you should upgrade to 2.4GHz. No you dont need to use LiPos but if you want to unleash the full power of brushless power then you should use a LiPo. A 2s LiPo for that setup.
Just replaced my 20t motor with a 17.5t brushless and can't seem to get it working. It's a Novak system with esc. Do you think my receiver is too old? Do you have to use lipos with them?

ok. I had a 15t brushed in it before now 17.5 brushless will I be losing power with this set up? or would lipos make it have more power?
you will be getting a little bit more power because the more turns there is, the more torque. Like regular brushed street motor have anywhere from 12 turns to 20 turns, but rock crawler motors have like 45 turns cause they need the extra grip and torque to get out of a tight spot. And the LiPos will add a bunch of power and speed. Hopes this helps.

If your not using lipos your going to most likely over heat the battery and the system is going to clog out at low to mid range speed. Lipos offer more enough power needed to stop the clogging making it butter smooth. Try them out... There not too expensive.

no lipos with this set up. I think my issues maybe becuase I have an AM receiver.
O ya, am's arent that good, I would recomend getting either a traxxas or spektrum 2.4GHz remote and receiver

Those are expensive though. Something quick simple and cheap is the Fs-GT2B, but thats currently out of stock for a good reason.

A more advanced version is the Fs-gt3B which has a back lit blue screen, 10-model memory, trims, and more features than a standard Traxxas radio has. Dropped down rubber wheel and an antenna that is flush with the top of the remote. Only for 40$ and it got a really good positive review from Rcnightmare themselves.
