Slash 4x4 stock top speed?

Hello,

I recently bought a Slash 4x4 #6808 rtr and was wondering what the expected out of the box top speed is. On the box it says 35+ MPH but my gps clocks it at 29. The box says 4000mAh battery but included is a 3000 mAh battery. So my question is... Will a higher mAh battery increase the top speed or is there something else I should look at?

It probably is because of the milliamp because if it has more mah, it will have more power inside the cells of the battery. Either that or you have to try some different gearing.

you will probably just need different batteries i recommend lipos because if you get lipos you will never go back to nimh

Thanks guys. I probably will go to Lipos in the future but for right now I want to know if upgrading from 3000 to 4 or 5kmah battery will increase the top speed.

There is a certain voltage Velineon setups can handle though. If you go over the voltage it can handle, it will blow like a firecracker!

Traxxas usually includes a second set of gears with the truck to achieve the speed advertised on the box. Use those gears only for doing speed runs though and watch your temps cause they will make your system run hotter. Also while mah of the pack may have some effect, at full charge it isn't noticeable. Its the voltage of the pack that determines speed. If you want serious speed, then get a 3s lipo but definitley watch your temps cause, while the vxl system can handle it, the combination of that much voltage and 4wd puts alot of strain on the speed control and motor.

I installed the high speed gearing included with my Slash 2WD and the motor got so hot you couldn't touch it for more than 2 seconds! So I went back to the factory gearing, long runtimes and cooler temps.

Ok, I used a 4500mah battery and did a top speed test again. It gained 2 MPH for a top speed of 31. I then removed the drive shaft to see if I had any binding from the slipper to the front. It also ran at 31. It was super squirrely!!! This is all done with stock gearing. Traxxas wants me to send it back to them. Is this a good idea? Has anyone had any experience with returns?
